My Story
I was born and raised in Newton and educated in the Newton Public Schools – Cabot, Day, Bigelow (the year it reopened), NNHS. I grew up going to Temple Emanuel and playing in Newton Central Little League, Newton Youth Soccer and YMCA basketball.
My wife, Iris, immigrated from Mexico after college, we have a son (Noah, 11) and daughter (Julia, 8) at Zervas and we attend Temple Beth Elohim. I have been active in the Zervas community – in 2023 I organized the community’s response to potential budget cuts, saving teacher jobs and maintaining class sizes, and earlier this year I served on the Superintendent Advisory Committee for the Zervas principal search.
My family and I have longstanding records of community service. I served on the Newton Central Little League Board of Directors (subsequently Newton Little League) and coached a team with my father, Alan, from 1997 through 2016. I have been on the Board of the Newton Southeast Little League since 2020, as well as a coach in Newton Youth Soccer, Newton Girls Soccer, Kindergarten Soccer (both leagues!), Newton Athletic Association basketball and YMCA basketball.
My father, Alan, is an attorney at Schlesinger & Buchbinder on Walnut Street in Newton Highlands. He has served at 2Life Communities (formerly Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly), Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, the Newton Schools Foundation and the Newton North High School Council. My mother, Susan, is a retired Medical Social Worker and former hospice volunteer at The Good Shepherd and former Advisory Board Member at the Newton Council on Aging.
I have a BA in Politics and Economics from Brandeis University and an MBA from MIT. I’ve spent the last 15 years of my career as a startup executive and have been a part of four successful acquisitions. I began my career in management consulting. I am currently an independent advisor to early stage startups.

My Priorities
Support Superintendent Nolin’s vision to build a system where all students are thriving and we can measure and improve outcomes
Be an independent voice centering student growth in all decisions
Work with the new mayor to tackle the ongoing financial challenges head-on, to build a sustainable budget with no educator layoffs that moves toward the Thrive version of Superintendent Nolin’s plan
Value our educators by listening to and addressing their concerns about our schools, and collaborating for a stronger future
Preserve and improve our best-in-the-state special education programs
Ensure our Social Emotional Learning programs evolve to address the resilience deficit that Superintendent Nolin has identified in our students
Develop a long-term strategic plan for facilities, to bring our aging schools up to par with our beautiful newer schools
Be vigilant about keeping the ugly rising tide of antisemitism out of our schools (see Boston Globe)
